Why You Need To Use A File Upload Form In Your WordPress Forms?

Most businesses when they start out collect all the data via the traditional email. They ask their customers, or readers to shoot an email with the files attached. That’s kind of tedious work I’d say.

Now when you add this feature to allow people to upload form on your WordPress website you’ll save so much time. You can have them all in one place, track everything, download them, review them, and do whatever you want with that information.

So, depending on the type of information you want to collect on your form, using a file upload field is one of the best ways to make it easier for you to get more info from your users quickly. And, these forms makes it easier to fill out for your customers and also helps you generate more revenue.

In order to make things easier you need to add a file upload field to your WordPress forms so you can collect different types of files and media from your site visitors whenever they submit their forms to you.

Here are some most common places people need a file upload form:

  • Job Application Forms.
  • Contest Forms that require uploading photos or documents.
  • Customer support forms.
  • Registration forms.
  • Client services forms that require file uploading.
  • Artists who need to upload files to transfer them.
  • And so much more.

And the best thing is you don’t need any other WordPress forms to make this work.

WPForms allows you to upload any format types to your contact forms, including but not limited to:

  • Documents (.doc, .xls, .ppt, and .pdf)
  • Images (.png, .gif, and .jpg)
  • Video (.mpg, .mov, and .wmv)
  • Audio (.wav, .mp3, and .mp4).

So if you need them, let’s learn how to make a file upload form in WordPress.

How To Make A File Upload Form In WordPress

Create Your File Upload Form In WordPress.

So in order to make the file upload form in WordPress, you need to make sure to install WPForms.

Here’s the tutorial on how to install WPForms on your WordPress website.

Once you’ve installed it, go to your WordPress dashboard and click on WPForms » Add New on the left-hand panel to create a new form and name it whatever you’d like. If it’s a registration form, name it registration form.

Then, scroll down to the Additional Templates section and type “File Upload Form”, then click on File Upload Form to open the template.

Side Note – Make sure to activate the Form Templates Pack Addon so that this displays on the screen.

Clicking that will make WPForms to load the File Upload Form.

You always have the option to add additional fields to your contact form by dragging them from the left-hand panel to the right hand panel (form).

So in the File Upload Form template you’ll already see that it has the Name, Email, Phone, File Upload, and Additional Comments fields.

You can always click on any of the form fields to make changes. You can also click on a form field and drag it to rearrange the order on your contact form. This will help you customize the form according to your requirements.

One good thing is that you can also add the File Upload field to any WordPress form you create (even the old ones). Just drag the File Upload form field (you can find it under Fancy Fields), from the left-hand panel of the Form Editor to the right hand panel to whichever section you like.

You must be wondering where these file uploads will be stored, right?

By default, all the files uploaded by site visitors are stored in the WPForms folder inside the Uploads directory of your site. To make things easier, you can also store these files in your WordPress Media Library by selecting the Store field in WordPress Media Library checkbox under Advanced Options. Hope this answered the much wanted question.

Under Style, you can choose if its gonna be Modern or Classic. If you want to add more file upload feature, add more file upload form fields to the form.

Customize Your File Upload Form Settings.

In order to customize it, you need to go to Settings -> General.

This should help you actually be able to customize the form. Here’s what each will allow you to do:

Form Name — Allows you to rename the form to whatever name you want..

Form Description — You can give your form a description. This can come in handy when you’re looking through various forms on your website.

Form CSS Class —  This one doesn’t matter. If you’re doing some code work, you can add them here.

Submit Button Text — Allows you to customize the copy on the submit button. This is what appears on your submit button.

Spam Prevention — This actually is there to enable the anti-spam feature to prevent spambot submissions. Generally, this feature is automatically enabled on all WordPress forms. So if you decide to use another form of spam prevention, you can uncheck this option.

GDPR Enhancements — GDPR Enhancements are made so that you can disable the storing of entry information and user details, like IP addresses, in an effort to comply with GDPR requirements.

Once you’ve completely customized it, you can click Save.

Configure Your File Upload Form Notifications.

Well if you’ve added the upload form feature and you don’t know if it’s working, it’s a bad idea.

In order to actually know who’s uploading stuff it is important that you get all the notifications. It’s how you know when someone submits something on one of your file upload forms.

But if you’ve disabled the notification feature, you’ll not be able to get an email notification whenever someone submits a form on your site.

So, make sure that it’s on and you’re ready to get notifications.

To get an email message when someone completes your form, you’ll need to set up form notifications in WordPress and provide your email address.

You can also use the smart tags, with this you can send a personalized notification to your site visitors once they finish your form to let them know that you have received what they’ve uploaded. This assures users that their form has gone through properly, along with their file upload.

So please make use of the smart tags feature that’s available on the notifications section on the form.

Configure Your File Upload Form Confirmations.

Once the user submits a form you will need to display some sort of message to inform that you’ve received the information successfully.

This is the kind of confirmation you need to show to a user.

To set up a simple form confirmations in WPForms so you can customize the success message site visitors will see when they submit a form on your site.

Let’s do that, click on the Confirmation tab in the Form Editor under Settings.

Then, you can select the type of confirmation type you’d like to create. For this example, we’ll select Message. This will display a success message of sorts.

So once you’ve selected message, you can customize the confirmation message to whatever you want the user or site visitor to know and click Save once you’re done.

Now you’re ready to add the form to your website.

Add Your File Upload Form To Your Website.

WPForms lets you add your forms to multiple places on your website including your pages, blog posts, and sidebar widgets.

But the most common placement option is the page/post embedding.

To add them to a page or a post you need to create a new page or post in WordPress, or you’ll have to go to the update settings on an existing page or post. After that, you need to click inside the first block (the blank area below your page title) and click on the Add WPForms icon.

If you’re using the classic editor you can select it from the top, or copy the code that the form has and paste it on that page or post (under the code section).

So once you’ve added the form, select the appropriate form that needs to show up there if you’re going above procedure and select it from the drop down menu.

Then click on update on the top.

View Your Files.

Once good thing about WPForms is that it stores each form submission as an entry. So it becomes so easy to view the uploaded files, all you have to do is go to WPForms -> Entries.

And from there, select the right form from the dropdown menu and click on View.

Next, right click the file to download the file, or click to view it in your browser.

If you really want to create a file upload form in wordpress then you need to get WPForms.

It has so many features that you’ll love and can use anytime.
