If you’re looking to auto-apply coupons to your WooCommerce store at the checkout page, then this step by step guide is for you.
Every single E-Commerce webstore has an option to add coupons. Coupons can help you drive sales and you’ll see an instant bump in the revenue of your store. If you’re not making use of it, you’re leaving money on the table.
This means your prospective customer lands on your store is about to make a purchase, but suddenly leaves the store without completing the checkout or making the purchase.
Coupons are just a push or a nudge to complete the purchase.
There are many types of coupons. Like there are the welcome coupons, special offers, etc. So if you know how to create coupons that can auto-apply while the customer purchases it, you’re going to be able to convince them to close the sale.
This just happens because of the prize drop when they see when the coupon is applied. You can choose to create the apply coupon and auto-apply coupon feature working on your website based on your choice on your WooCommerce store.
As the name auto-apply suggests it means that the coupon is auto-applied when the customer tries to purchase something from your store. It has some benefits to it – like it can save them time, makes the buying decision easier, etc.
So in this blog article, we’ll learn how to set up auto-apply coupons
In this post, you’re gonna learn how to create an auto-apply coupon code for your WooCommerce store.
What Is Auto-Apply Coupon?
An Auto-apply coupon code is a feature that you’ve set up on your WooCommerce store where the coupons are automatically applied for your customer. So what this means is that the customer doesn’t have to manually enter a coupon code during the checkout process.
The coupon is auto-applied for that promotion or special offer you’ve created.
Take a look at the example below.
Generally, the customer would have to apply the coupon code in that spot where they’re required to enter their coupon code manually. What you are going to do is you’re going to set this feature for them automatically so that they can see that a coupon is applied for them and there’s a price drop, which nudges them to complete the purchase.
You many wonder if doing this has benefits or not.
Well let me tell you some of the benefits of it. Because you’re offering exclusive or special deals to your customers they’ll likely chose to make use of that coupon and make a purchase.
For example, if you’ve some customers have signed up to your email list then you’re more likely to convert them into customers by offering them a welcome coupon code that saves them a 10% OFF on their first purchase.
Other types of offers are when you want every customer to see a discount. This discount applies to everyone. So to deliver this coupon code, most people place this on their banner or the footer of their site or almost on their checkout page.
Those are the normal methods people use Coupon codes on their sites to convert customers.
But to have success with auto-apply coupons, you’ll have to activate that coupon code on the backend of your website. And you can choose to give it to someone who qualifies for it. This means they won’t have to add that coupon code at all. So what you’ll see most of the times is that some shopping pages will say, get 50% on orders above X price point.
Those kinds of deals auto-apply coupons when they reach a certain order amount value in the checkout page. So every single customer gets to see that deal, but it will work only for those who chose to take action on it. Because this is “auto-apply” by auto-applying coupons you’re making their purchasing experience more streamlined and they don’t have to deal with any other thing.
When To Use The Auto-Apply Coupon Strategy?
So this question is always on everyone’s mind, “When can I use the auto-apply coupon strategy?”.
Let me list you some instances that you can use because there aren’t any fixed set of rules to this.
- You can use them when you have a holiday sale or some seasonal sale.
- You can use them if they make store wide purchases. (Get 10% OFF on all items in our shop).
- Special deals when the conditions are met. (Get 20% OFF on purchases above $50 or more).
- You can use it sometimes to reduce the shipping fees.
I hope you got the idea.
When you want your customers to use the coupon code without them applying it, do it for everyone or if they cross a certain amount on the checkout page. Otherwise if you haven’t thought about it, just give them the regular coupon code on a banner so they can use it manually on the checkout page.
How To Add Auto-Apply Coupon Feature To Your WooCommerce Store.
Now let’s get to the actual part where you can work this auto-apply coupon feature on your WooCommerce store.
Don’t worry, it’s easy to get this done. So now let’s get to it.
Follow the steps below and you’re good to go. So if you’re store is up and ready, you’re ready to make the coupons thing work.
Note: Install Advanced Coupons Plugin to make this work.
Step 1: Create A New Coupon (Code).
Our first step is to create a new coupon that customers and visitors can use.
To do that, go to Marketing > Coupons on the left hand side of your WordPress dashboard.
Once you’re there you’ll be able to create coupon under Add new coupon.
As you can see in the image above, you can click on the Generate coupon code or just type a coupon code of your own.
Add some description to it, so that later you’ll know that this coupon was for X purposes and works from X date to X date in this year.
Now, let’s configure the coupon in the coupon data section. (Under Usage restriction).
Refer to the image below so you understand and follow along.
Things that you can do here are:
- Select the type of discount you’re offering.
- How customers can save the coupon code.
- Coupon expiration date.
- Products that coupon works on.
- Usage restrictions – meaning this works on orders above a certain value, etc.
Take a look at the fields and you’ll be able to fill them out. Think well and set your parameters and you’re good to go.
We can test it once you’ve set this up to see if the auto-apply feature works or not.
Step 2: Customize The Coupon Code Using Advanced Options.
If you want Advanced options like the one below, install Advanced Coupons plugin. This will show a variety of options for you to fill.
Refer the image below and you’ll understand.
Here are the advanced possibilities you can do:
- Buy one Get one Free Deal.
- Apply Coupon on only specific products within your store.
- Schedule the coupon code deal in advance to build more buzz or rush to your store.
- Restrict the promotions to your wholesale customers.
Based on the type of offer you’re creating you’ll have to decide your auto-apply coupon on the checkout page.
If you chose the Buy One Get one (BOGO) deal, go to that option below as in the image and fill them out. Choose the Trigger types as “Product Categories”.
Now under the product category, choose what every category you’re gonna offer your customers. This means only when this is offered they can get another one. In the above image, you can see Clothing category selected which means they can get a second clothing item for free if they get one (all in that category only).
Step 3: Set Up Cart Conditions.
Our next step is to set up the cart conditions.
What this means is that based on your cart value you can offer the auto-apply deal to work automatically.
So if the products in the cart exists and has a certain value then allow another flow of command to happen.
It is based on the IF/THEN formula. So if the cart values exceeds a certain amount then you can make the coupon work.
So for the BOGO deal once the customer adds that a product in the clothing category and spends over your specified amount, you can offer them the THEN deal (which is the FREE clothing item).
Below example says if the cart value hits 24.99 then add the THEN rule.
Under the Condition rule, you can choose MORE THAN, EQUAL Or LESS THAN and enter any Cart Subtotal ($). So if anyone adds products more than 24.99 they can avail the FREE thing you’re offering under the THEN rule.
Under the THEN rule, add another clothing category of your choice.
Step 4: Enable Auto-Apply Feature.
Now that we’ve messed with the IF/THEN feature, let’s make that work. So all you have to do now is go to the Auto Apply Coupon section on the right as in the image below and check that box.
What this does is the previous IF/THEN will get triggered on command. That’s how you make the Auto-Apply Coupon method to work.
So if all your conditions are met, this will automatically trigger the coupon code and offer whatever you’re offering to the customer.
Make sure to promote this Offer to your customers so that they know that they’re getting this offer.
Now all you need to work on is promotions. Just promote it and get more people to use your coupon code.
Auto-Apply coupon is a great way to generate a lot of sales or even raise the sales volume of your WooCommerce store.
Because you’re offering a coupon based deal, offering it at a higher amount makes certain people to bump up their cart value to reach that limit so that they can avail that auto-apply coupon deal.
Auto-apply coupon feature is easily to set up on the backend of your WooCommerce store with the help of Advanced coupons.
